STAR helps synagogues deepen their connection with the American Jewish community.

A national thought leader, STAR (Synagogues: Transformation, and Renewal) bridges the chasm between the community and the synagogue through congregational innovation and leadership development.

Newsweek recognition
We are pleased to see so many in our STAR family on Newsweek's America's 25 Most Vibrant Congregations.  See STAR connections here.  And, last but not least, our own Rabbi Hayim Herring appears once again on Newsweek's 50 Influential Rabbis.

Mazel Tov to Marsha
STAR Senior Program Officer Marsha Katz Rothpan was chosen to receive the Mark Meltzer New & Innovative Programming Award from Jewish Communal Professionals of Southern California (JCPSC).

This award is based on Marsha's Synaplex Initiative work, starting almost five years ago when she coordinated the launch of Synaplex at Temple Aliyah and Temple Judea in S. California.

mortar_board.jpg Congratulations to our friends receiving honorary degrees from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JIR).  Rabbi Terry Allen Bookman, Doctor of Divinity (D.D.), a STAR faculty member and Synaplex rabbi, Rabbi Julie Gordon, D.D., STAR Tech grant recipient, Rabbi Joe Rooks Rapport, D.D., STAR Tech grant recipient, Rabbi Elizabeth (Liza) Weiss Stern, D.D., STAR faculty member, and Rabbi Barry Lutz, Doctor of Jewish Religious Education, and a STAR Good to Great and Synaplex rabbi.

Synaplex congregation Am Yisrael has received a USCJ - Midwest Region's Chana Rosen z”l Synagogue Excellence Award.   As Joel Brown the (now past) President commented, ""The award was bestowed for our Synaplex program, now a mainstay of our annual programming...Perhaps more so than any other programming at Am Yisrael, Synaplex draws its strength from contributions made by many different constituencies within our congregation.  It is the quintessential group event, and I am so pleased to see our communal efforts meriting recognition from our umbrella organization."

What's Rabbi Herring thinking about?  Technology, rabbinical education, organizational change, leadership, and more. Read it all on his Tools For Shuls blog!
